“Bastiaan Franciscus Wilhelmus de Leede is the son of former Dutch international cricketer, Tim de Leede, who played for Netherlands in 29 international matches, including the 2007 World Cup. Bas de Leede made his debut for the national team back in June 2018 and has played 30 ODIs and 31 T20Is.
An ODI memory of Bas de Leede which stands out is his game against Scotland in Bulawayo in 2023. He scored an astonishing 123 runs and took 5 wickets for 52 runs, a remarkable all-round feat and helped the Dutch book their place for the 2023 ODI World Cup with a four-wicket win against Scotland. He also became only the fifth player in ODI history to achieve a century and a five-wicket haul in the same match. His captain, Scott Edwards, hailed the performance, saying, “”Build the man a statue. That was an unbelievable game.””
On a personal note, Tim’s cousin Babbette also plays for the Netherlands women’s cricket team as a wicketkeeper-batter.
