"When we came into power economic situation was not very good and global recession was one the major reasons, but after coming to power we took a number of steps," Singh said while addressing an event here. Indian-Canadian Anmol Tukrel develops search engine 'better than Google'</br> <br>A 16-year-old Indian-Canadian boy has developed a personalised search engine that he claims is 47 per cent more accurate than Google. Anmol Tukrel made the search engine for Google Science Fair, a global competition that is open for students aged between 13 to 18 years. It took him approximately 60 hours for the coding of the search engine. The testing of the software, however, was limited to news article appearing on The New York Times and provided more accurate results. Tukrel claims his engine is 21 per cent more accurate than Google on average and can be as high as 47 per cent more accurate.</br> (Reuters) (23/082015)

Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha, the latest to react on the issue, reiterated PM Narendra Modi’s view that a decision on extending the tenure of RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan would be taken at an appropriate time and that the NDA government was committed to the independence of the central bank. “We have a very mature relationship with the RBI. It is an institutional relationship. We believe in strengthening and protecting institutions and ensuring their independence,” said Sinha. The power output for this new vehicle was increased by seven per cent and fuel efficiency by five per cent, Arun SK, CEO, Audi Coimbatore, told reporters here. Govt hikes onion MEP to USD 700/tonne to check prices</br> <br>The government today hiked the minimum export price of onions sharply by USD 275 per tonne to curb shipments and boost domestic supply to control spiraling retail prices that have touched up to Rs 80 per kg. The decision to increase onion MEP to USD 700 per tonne from USD 425 is taken as prices of onions at both wholesale and retail levels have been rising on lower output due to unseasonal rains earlier. "To increase availability in domestic market, it has been decided to raise minimum export price (MEP) of onions further to USD 700 per tonne," said the Consumer Affairs Ministry in a statement.</br> (PTI) (23/082015)

<br>6. 25,000 sign up for PM Modi's Silicon Valley reception</br> <br>More than 25,000 people have signed up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reception being organised by the Indian-American community in Silicon Valley on September 27. The number is expected to increase after the registration process is opened to those not affiliated to the 500 community organisations which have joined hands for the reception. Google to promote digital literacy in Haryana</br> <br>Search engine giant Google has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the government of Haryana to promote digital literacy in the state. Google will undertake a digital literacy drive covering internet safety in government schools, and also conduct a similar exercise for government officials. Dabbawalas to promote hand-washing practice among Mumbaikars</br> <br>The famed dabbawalas of Mumbai will begin a seven day-drive to deliver soaps and handwash to around 100,000 people from next week, in a bid to promote hygienic practices among the residents. The dabbawalas, who deliver around two lakh lunches to office-goers everyday, have associated with VVF India under a drive where they will distribute handwash to people and promote the simple hygiene measure. The drive is a part of VVR India's initiative to help Mumbaikars build healthy habits. E-tickets for night visit to Taj Mahal soon</br> <br>Tourists visiting the Taj Mahal at night would soon be able to buy tickets online till 3 PM of the day of their visit, instead of booking in advance. A proposal in this matter has already been cleared and an order would soon be issued, Union Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma told news persons here. Currently tickets need to be purchased manually in advance, ASI officials said adding night view is allowed between 8:30 PM to 00:30 AM and the duration of visit is 30 minutes.
